As your Trustee from HISD's District VI, Greg has been dedicated to implementing policy grounded in applications that make a positive difference on our school district and our students. He has consistently worked to advance an agenda of progress for the Houston Independent School District.

Greg has been and will continue to work hard to ensure every child grows academically and that tax payer dollars are used in the most effective manner to produce excellence in our Houston students.

During Greg's five years on the HISD Board, he has helped to either break new ground on policy or steer the board in a direction of further achievement. The following initiatives are a few examples of Greg's leadership:

• Encouraged HISD to place the "check-book" on-line for greater transparency and accountability to the tax payers.
• Moved the board to tighten Board Member Ethical Policy to reduce conflict of interest issues with board members.
• Implemented a Petroleum studies program to Westside HS and the International School at Sharpstown HS.
• Integral part of moving HISD to measure student achievement on growth rather than looking at students only meeting minimum standards.
• Helped to identify and allocate additional funds for fine arts & technology & libraries.

Throughout Greg's tenure, HISD has increased the number of Exemplary and Recognized schools, increased the college readiness of students through offering Pre-AP, AP and dual-credit courses for college-bound students, facilitated teach pay to be in the top four within the region and implemented a "pay-as-you-go" system in performing maintenance repairs and implemented defibulators in all of its schools, thus leading the way for the Texas State Legislature to mandate this for all Texas schools.
