About Greg Meyers

Greg Meyers has lived most of his life in the West Houston area, where he has been active in the community both as a policymaker and as a volunteer. As a result, he has a strong grasp of the important issues facing the people of House District 149, and the experience and proactive leadership style needed to serve the district’s residents as their State Representative in Austin.

Greg Meyers has served as Board Chairman of the West Houston Chamber of Commerce. During his tenure as Chairman, Greg oversaw the Chamber’s strong contribution to the economic growth and revitalization of West Houston.

Greg Meyers understands the vital role that education plays in our workforce development and economic infrastructure. After leading the Chamber of Commerce, Greg turned his attention to the education system, seeking to apply his experience as a leader and policymaker at the local school board level.

In 2004, Greg was elected to the board of the Houston Independent School District, the 7th largest in the nation. In his first year of service, he was appointed to chair the Board Monitoring Committee, which developed an expanded accountability system across the district. The committee’s work led to HISD receiving national recognition as one of the top urban school boards in the country.

He was reelected to a full term on the HISD school board in 2005. While on the board, Greg Meyers has been elected by his peers to serve in multiple leadership positions. He presently serves as the legislative liaison for the Board.

Greg has a proven track record of proactive leadership and results-driven management. From developing a stronger accountability system in HISD, to ensuring our tax dollars are spent efficiently, to creating compensation opportunities to reward outstanding teachers, Greg Meyers has always helped the school district move in the right direction. His efforts have improved our education system and have resulted in higher student test scores and more money being spent in the classroom, and he has been recognized for his efforts, receiving the HISD Apple Pin Award for extraordinary service to Houston’s schools.

Greg holds a management and marketing degree from Texas A&M University and an MBA from St. Mary’s University. He has been married to his Katy Taylor High School sweetheart Sandie for 19 years. They are the proud parents of 2 boys, Kyle and Grant, who attend Houston ISD public schools. The Meyers family has lived in House District 149 for almost 9 years, and Greg and Sandie own a small dental marketing company they founded in 1999.

Meyers is active in many areas of community service. He is the Honorary Chairman of the Boy Scouts of America’s Scout Fair, is a former Chairman of the West Houston Chamber Governmental Affairs Committee, and is a former Board Member of the Joint City/County Commission on Children.
