DALLAS, TEXAS (October 24, 2007) – The political arm of the state’s leading conservative organization, Texas Eagle Forum, announced the endorsement of Greg Meyers in the race for House District 149. The district, on the west side of Houston, is currently represented by Rep. Hubert Vo (D–Alief).
Texas Eagle Forum President Cathie Adams cited Meyers support for Defense of Marriage legislation as a key distinction between Meyers and his opponent. “Hubert Vo says he is in touch with his district and represents its values. The facts show otherwise.” In the 2005 legislative session, Rep. Vo voted against legislation defining marriage as the union between one man and one woman. Voters in House District 149 supported the constitutional amendment by a margin of 76% to 24%. “This vote is one of many examples where Hubert Vo is out of touch with his district,” Adams added.
Greg Meyers said, “I’m honored to earn the endorsement of Texas Eagle Forum and am grateful for their support. I’m running for the Texas Legislature to bring my conservative, pro-family principles and common-sense business experience to Austin. We need honest, principled leadership and effective representation as our voice in Austin.”
The mission of Texas Eagle Forum is to enable conservative and pro-family men and women to participate in the process of self-government and public policy-making so that America will continue to be a land of individual liberty, respect for family integrity, and free enterprise.
Greg Meyers was elected to the HISD Board in 2004 and presently serves as legislative liaison for the Board. Meyers is a Past Chairman of the Houston West Chamber of Commerce, and a former chairman of the Chamber’s governmental affairs committee, as well as a former board member of the Joint City/County Commission on Children. He has received the HISD Apple Pin Award for extraordinary service to schools. He has served on his neighborhood association board, coached soccer and baseball, and served as a Cub Scout den leader.
In 1999, after 12 years in the dental-products industry, Meyers founded his own company, which currently works with more than 160 representatives and 8,000 dentists in three states. Meyers earned a bachelor of business administration degree from Texas A&M University, with a double major in management and marketing, and an MBA degree from St. Mary's University, with an emphasis in finance. Meyers and his wife Sandie are members of Grace Presbyterian Church. They have two sons, both of whom attend HISD schools.
