HOUSTON, TEXAS . . . Greg Meyers, the Republican candidate for House District 149, reported raising over $57,000 for his mid-year campaign finance report. Meyers, an HISD Trustee, raised almost three times the amount of his opponent, incumbent State Rep. Hubert Vo (D - Alief). Vo reported raising only $19,996.
Meyers’ latest report shows $57,121 raised and $34,005 spent, with $26,795 reported cash on hand. Meyers’ previous report ending on Dec. 31, 2007 showed a total raised of $24,500 and $19,817 spent. The combined totals of the two reports show Meyers raising $81,621 and spending $53,822 since announcing his candidacy late last year. The Meyers campaign finance reports also show over 130 total individual contributors to the campaign.
Greg Meyers said, “I’m honored by the strong demonstration of support from my supporters who believe we need honest, effective representation in House District 149. They know I’ll bring new leadership on the important issues facing our state including a fair and equitable tax system, new and innovative solutions to education challenges, and strengthening our efforts to control crime and improve public safety in West Houston.”
Harris County GOP Chairman Jared Woodfill applauded Meyers’ candidacy and said, “Greg Meyers is a hard-working candidate and represents the best shot Republicans have of winning back a legislative seat this cycle."
The Meyers campaign has been focused on grassroots, door-to-door outreach to voters in House District 149. To date, Greg Meyers has personally knocked on over 3,600 doors in the legislative district he seeks to represent in Austin.
Greg Meyers was elected to the HISD Board in 2004 and presently serves as legislative liaison for the board. Meyers is a Past Chairman of the Houston West Chamber of Commerce, and a former chairman of the Chamber’s governmental affairs committee, as well as a former board member of the Joint City/County Commission on Children.
Meyers and his wife Sandie are members of Grace Presbyterian Church. They have two sons, both of whom attend HISD schools.
