Independent Electrical Contractors Texas Gulf Chapter PAC Picks Meyers as Best Candidate for State Legislature

HOUSTON, TX (September 19th, 2007) . . . Today, the Independent Electrical Contractors Association – Texas Gulf Coast Chapter PAC endorsed Greg Meyers, the Republican candidate for State Representative in House District 149. Meyers is challenging the incumbent, State Rep. Hubert Vo.

Clyde Bryan, IEC Government Affairs Chairman, said the endorsement of Meyers was an easy decision for the group. “Greg Meyers has been a dedicated leader on the Houston ISD school board in the fight for government accountability and reduced taxation. As a small businessman, Greg will be a great advocate for the principles of free enterprise and limited government as the next state representative from District 149”, Bryan said.

Meyers thanked the group and said, “I’m honored to receive the endorsement and appreciate the support of IEC. They know, as I do, that our small businesses are the backbone of our economy and I’ll work hard to improve Texas’ business climate.”

The Independent Electrical Contractors Association is a national trade organization supporting merit-shop electrical contractors. IEC Texas Gulf Coast is the largest chapter in the nation and operates Texas’ largest professional trade apprenticeship school. It is also a leading advocate for free enterprise, merit shop trades and market-based wage issues in the Houston area.

Greg Meyers was elected to the HISD Board in 2004 and presently serves as legislative liaison for the Board. Meyers is a Past Chairman of the Houston West Chamber of Commerce, a former chairman of the Chamber’s governmental affairs committee, as well as a former board member of the Joint City/County Commission on Children. He has received the HISD Apple Pin Award for extraordinary service to schools. He has served on his neighborhood association board, coached soccer and baseball, and served as a Cub Scout den leader.

In 1999, after 12 years in the dental-products industry, Meyers founded his own company, which currently works with more than 160 representatives and 8,000 dentists in three states. Meyers earned a bachelor of business administration degree from Texas A&M University, with a double major in management and marketing, and a master of business administration degree from St. Mary's University, with an emphasis in finance. Meyers and his wife Sandie are members of Grace Presbyterian Church. They have two sons, both of whom attend HISD schools.
